Can I Get a Witness?

Neal H"You don’t have to worry about preaching, just act it out every day..." The area known as Galilee in the bible was a place of teaching and miracles for Jesus. He performed his first miracle at Cana just near the sea there. It was the home of his childhood and also the last place he was seen on earth after he rose on Easter according to Mark 16:19-20. Galilee is the highest point in Israel and is where Jesus called his disciples together to give them one last instruction before returning to heaven. Mark 16 tells us:

15-16 Then he said, "Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God's good news to one and all. Whoever believes and is baptized is saved.”

The final instruction is for the disciples to go from the mountain top and be a witness or tell what they have seen with Jesus. Did you catch that? He doesn’t say stay here and shout it to the world; he says go from this place and then tell the world. Not once does he say to bring others to the mountain top. That’s the work of the Holy Spirit. How often do we have an amazing thing happen to us, and we want to tell everyone about it? I happen to be the worst in the entire world about this... and I've thought about starting a club.

God wants us to have amazing experiences, but sometimes sharing those experiences can make others feel the opposite of what we intended for them. Most of the time the best way to share that is to just live it. In other words, you don’t have to worry about preaching, just act it out every day. Let the choices you make and the things you do—like helping someone in need—do the preaching for you.

It’s tempting to tell someone that "amazing thing" as soon as it happens to you; but I bet if they noticed the difference in the way you act they would ask you before you know it. This is how we trust God to give us a chance to share him with others. This is how we become the most effective witness.
