Glory?
There are so many words in the English language that seem to be used incorrectly. For example the word “adorable” means worthy of being liked or loved. In other words a puppy is not adorable because he’s cute. He would be adorable if he ran into a dangerous building and saved someone’s life though. The word Glory is a lot like that. We always want to give God the “glory” for all good things in life but what does that really mean. I was surprised to learn I could give God glory or glorify him better with my actions more than what I say or give to him. The word Glorify does not necessarily mean to heap praise upon. The Bible was first written in a completely different language and the word used for Glory in that language actually means “to reveal”. Think about all the verses that contain that word and then substitute that idea in there. Look at Psalm 34:3, Psalm 69:30 or John 8:54 just to give you a few examples. What about the sentence “I want my life to Glorify God”? Translation: I want my life to reveal God. What an amazing thing that would be. You can add just about anything to that sentence and really begin to see why it’s so important to make good choices. I want to Glorify God with my school work, with my sports team, with my friends hanging out at the pool. When God tells us that he wants our lives to Glorify him, it’s not a selfish request for us to remind him that he’s God. He really wants us to live in a way that tells others who he is. Remember you are made in God’s image. No other thing on earth more closely tells what he is like than you. My prayer for you today is that you find new ways to reveal who God is to those around you without ever saying a word. If you can you will truly be “adorable”!
